1. The opening scene connects to the overall message of the story because that scene was a metaphor to how people try to tame ones tongue (identity) so they can fit the standards they are living.

2. The use of Spanish in her writing was a symbol of how she remained her identity and language even though she learned english, her identity didn't change.

3. Academic english and Spanish are standard languages that were originated from different areas in the world. Chicano spanish is a slang/non standard version of spanish. Standard spanish show the identity behind people who speak spanish as their first language. People who speak Chicano spanish identities are different.

4. Speaking and writing in academic english has necessities like having correct grammar, vocab and other literacy techniques. In the society we live in, it is necessary to have these qualities because society is all about having correct literacy and writing.

5. Varies types of english are standard english, in which people who have good grammar and literacy speak. There are also "slang" in english, in which urban societies mostly use.

6. My friends and I use slang when we are talking to one another because where we are from we use a lot of slang.

7. With my friends i use both standard and non standard english. With my parents i also use both and with my professors i use standard english because that is a professional setting where you should use standard english.

8. That quote means your language is your identity. It connects to a persons identity because language is another part that makes up salmons identity and if you strip that away then you are taking a piece of their language, culture and etc.

9. The introduction and conclusion connects because the intro was a metaphor to the overall point the author was trying to make and the conclusion was how one overcame the adversity they faced with defining their identity.

10. The language i speak is apart of my identity because is shows who i am as a person, where I'm from and what other form of english i have picked up as far as with "slang".

11. Identity is important to me because it defines who a person is and how they are viewed to someone else. Anzaldua believes that it is important to have an identity because while writing the article, she places some spanish in the reading to show how important spanish is to her culture.
